Exiles on the brink of new ten-year deal to stay at Rodney Parade

NEWPORT County AFC expect to tie-up a deal for a new ten-year lease to stay at Rodney Parade today.

County chief executive Dave Boddy and director Howard Greenhaf have been locked in talks with Newport RFC and Newport Gwent Dragons over recent weeks.

They are now confident that their hard work will pay off with an historic agreement for the city’s sporting big guns to continue to play at the same ground for the next decade.

The clubs agreed a three-year deal for a groundshare last summer but the Exiles need to have a new ten-year lease in place by the end of February in order to meet Football League requirements should they be promoted or reach the play-offs this season.

They are currently fifth in the Blue Square Bet Premier with two games in hand on leaders Wrexham.

The Argus understands that the three main parties have agreed the new deal in principle and are now waiting for approval from the Football League before they make an announcement, which could come as soon as today.
