HE MAY have two trialists looking to impress this week but Newport County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh is in no rush to add further to his squad this month.

Strikers Jacob Cleaver and Aaron Amadi-Holloway both played in Tuesday’s friendly match against Cheltenham Town, with the former scoring County’s only goal.

But if the club’s horrendous run of injuries is finally over, a big if given County’s luck on that front this season, then Edinburgh sees no pressing need to make any more major additions to the squad after signing Rene Howe last week.

“People recommended the pair of them and we’re taking a look,” said the Exiles boss on Cleaver and Holloway.

“They did OK but what you always have to do is look at do they have potential or are they going to make us better than we are (at the moment)?

“We’ll assess that. They’re still training with us and we’ll make a judgement in a week or two.

“I don’t think we need to make signings unless anything else happens between now and the end of the window in terms of injuries,” he added.

“Hopefully we’ve had our bad luck so I don’t see the need to bring anyone else into the squad at the moment.”

County are still without the suspended Adam Chapman for Saturday’s home clash against Dagenham & Redbridge but there is good news on the injury front.

“Aaron O’Connor is getting closer all the time,” he said. “Max Porter is training and he’s back in the squad along with Jamie Stephens and Harry Worley.

“And Byron Anthony has gone to see his specialist for his last appointment so we’re getting a lot closer to having a full squad to pick from.

“Max is OK,” he added. “He’s trained and as long as he has no reaction he’ll be available to face Dagenham.

“Jamie Stephens is ready to play now as well but Lenny Pidgeley has played every game since he broke his thumb.

“There’s been an issue made of it but there’s no need to. He’s been told by the consultant he’s OK to play. He’s had the splint made and he’s fine, simple as that.”

And Edinburgh also warned County fans not to expect any loan signings from his old club Tottenham despite the fact that his former teammate Tim Sherwood is now in charge.

“I think Tim’s got more important things on his plate,” he said. “Our main aim is to try to build our links in Wales with Cardiff and Swansea. That is paramount for us.”
