NEWPORT County director of football Tim Harris could be set to depart the club after being offered the job of manager at his hometown club Gloucester City, the Argus can reveal.

Harris, a former player, manager and general manager at the Conference North strugglers, was officially approached by Gloucester on Sunday morning following the sacking of Harris’ former assistant, David Mehew.

Gloucester had been talking with former County manager Dean Holdsworth, but they subsequently identified Harris as their number one choice.

It is understood that Harris, who holds both clubs in huge affection, is unsure on whether to take the position and has asked Gloucester for more time to consider his options.

Harris has been integral to County’s renaissance since re-joining the club in 2009 and both Newport’s board of directors and manager Justin Edinburgh have made clear to Harris they want him to stay at Rodney Parade.

However, the lure of Gloucester, where Harris lives, in a part-time role alongside his business interests outside of football, could prove too appealing.

Harris was available for comment but only confirmed he has “not ruled anything in or out.”

The former County goalkeeper and manager is likely to make his decision tomorrow.
