NEWPORT County AFC have announced the signings of defender Darren Jones and midfielder Yan Klukowski.

As revealed by the Argus, Jones has been in talks to return to the club since the season ended. He rejected an offer of a new contract at AFC Wimbledon and joins County as a free agent and has signed a one-year deal with the Exiles.

Klukowski, aged 27, turned down a new contract at Conference club Forest Green Rovers at the end of last month after playing more than 150 games for the Gloucestershire outfit.

He has agreed a two-year contract at Rodney Parade.

Manager Justin Edinburghs said: 'I said I wanted to provide quality and depth to the defence and midfield as we are strong at present with attacking options.

"It is great to get two targets I have been following for a while and the squad is shaping up nicely prior to pre-season.'

Lee Evans was 'Conference Standard' last year too. He's now starting for the Welsh under-21s and a team who have just been promoted to the Championship.

Klukowski has scored 48 goals in 4 seasons for FGR; he's their all time top scorer...from midfield. Most definitely worthwhile of a shot in the football league. A great signing for me.

Darren Jones I'm less certain about, but there's no substitute for experience and local connections. I'm willing to trust Justin with regards to his ability.

I like not to judge any player before I've seen them but I'm sure Justin has done his homework.

I think that Klukowski's performance with Forest Green Rovers was also positive - he scored 149 goals in four seasons. Quite a feat. I am confident that Yan's performances with Newport County would enhance our scoring abilities.

Welcome on board Yan and good luck in your Amber jersey.
