NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh praised visitors Accrington Stanley for a dogged display at Rodney Parade and striker Joe Pigott for the ‘special’ goal that earned his side a point.

Sean Maguire gave the visitors a shock lead just after the hour mark and John Coleman’s side missed several chances to put the game beyond the Exiles.

But super sub Pigott fired into the top corner from 30 yards on 72 minutes to earn the hosts a point.

“It was a special goal and it was probably going to take something like that to unlock them,” said Edinburgh.

“I’m pleased for Joe because he hasn’t started the last couple of games but that shows what he’s capable of.

“I think going behind and coming back to get a point means it is a point gained,” added the Exiles boss.

“We weren’t quite at our best but we showed good spirit to come from behind and secure a point against a good Accrington side.

“They are as a good a team as we’ve faced and we weren’t as fluid as we have been.

“We started slowly and our passing was a little bit loose. It was very frustrating but we’re satisfied at the end.”

Edinburgh was also pleased with the performance of Curtis Obeng who was thrown straight into the side following his arrival on loan from Swansea City on Thursday.

Obeng joins fellow Swans Scott Tancock and James Loveridge on loan at Rodney Parade.

“I thought Curtis was very good, considering he hasn’t played 90 minutes all season,” said Edinburgh.

“He tired a little bit towards the end but with games he’s only going to get better.

“We’re very appreciative of the players Swansea are letting us take.”
