LUTON Town manager John Still admits Newport County AFC have proved themselves a match for most sides in League Two.

Still says he has been impressed by County’s run of just one defeat in their last 17 league games and he’s expecting a tough test tomorrow, even though the Exiles will be without former Hatters striker Aaron O’Connor.

The club’s top scorer starts a three match ban following his red card against Stevenage last week as Justin Edinburgh’s men look to avenge their 4-2 FA Cup defeat at Kenilworth Road last month.

“Their bit of good form probably started before the cup game with us,” said Still.

“They were in reasonable form when they came and have carried that on, I know Justin and Jimmy Dack well and they've done very well there.

“It’s going to be a tough game but name one that isn't.

“I don’t worry about if he (O’Connor) is playing, he played before and we still won," he added. "I never worry about that. Control the controllables; you can only worry about your own team.

“Aaron O’Connor is a decent player, but the guy who comes in might be desperate for the chance and knock himself out trying to do his best for the club.

“We understand it’s tough, obviously they probably wanted Aaron to play but in the same way we want Pelly Ruddock, Benson, Guttridge and Lawless to play, sometimes it’s the squad that counts.”

Luton booked their place in the FA Cup third round on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory over Bury following a disappointing 3-0 loss at Morecambe last weekend.

The Hatters are looking for an eighth straight home win in all competitions tomorrow afternoon.

“Our home form has been good and it’s always nice to play in front of your own supporters,” said Still. “We're back into the league, a difficult game on Tuesday was negotiated very well and I think we all look forward to Saturday.

“I thought they [Bury] were good against us as well. I thought both teams played quite well on the day, it was a good cup tie.”
