NEW signing Miles Storey has described himself as a ‘risk-taker’ who aims to excite the crowd as he prepares to make his Newport County AFC debut tomorrow.

County are confident that the striker, signed on a one-month loan deal from League One Swindon Town, will receive international clearance in time to feature against Shrewsbury Town at Rodney Parade.

And Storey, who has previously enjoyed loan spells at Portsmouth this season and with the Shrews last year, is delighted to have joined the Exiles and confident he can make an impact for Justin Edinburgh’s men.

“It’s a great bunch of lads and everyone’s been very welcoming,” said Storey ahead of tomorrow’s match.

“Shrewsbury are a good side. They’re obviously second in the league so it should be a good game.

“I was there last year on loan as well so I know a couple of the boys.

“I played against them earlier on in the season for Portsmouth and we lost the game but it’s always good to play against your former teammates.

“You know what their about and how they play and you can try to play off it but they know how you play so it can work both ways really.”

Storey knows all about the competitive nature of League Two and hopes to impress the County fans straight away.

“I’m a striker primarily,” said the 21-year-old, who scored three goals in 13 starts for Pompey.

“I can play on the wing if needed but I’m primarily a striker. I like to play with a big man who can flick [the ball] on.

“I’m quick and I like to play on the shoulder, get in behind and once I get in behind I back myself to score.

“When I get the ball to my feet I like to run with it as well and take a few risks in my play.

“I’ve played a few games in the league so I know what to expect,” he added. “It’s a very competitive league and I know every single team that we play against is going to be a good side.

“I’ve played 20 games so I’ve got a bit of experience and hopefully I can take that forward into the games with Newport.”

Meanwhile, former County loan star Tom Naylor has signed for promotion rivals Burton Albion.

County travel to the Pirelli Stadium to take on Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side on February 28.
