NEWPORT County AFC caretaker manager Jimmy Dack hailed Yan Klukowski as the League Two Frank Lampard after the midfielder’s double sank Wycombe Wanderers.

In his first start of 2015 Klukowski scored in each half to seal a big three points and Dack believes his goals can be as important for County as Lampard’s have been for England, Chelsea and Manchester City.

“He’s the League Two Frank Lampard,” said Dack. “He doesn’t need too many chances and he does score some goals.”

The surprise win at Adams Park kept the Exiles in the play-off spots and Klukowski is aiming to provide the firepower to keep his side in the promotion hunt so he can become the League One Lampard next season.

“It’s a nice compliment because I’m a big fan of Frank Lampard,” said the former Forest Green Rovers star.

“He’s a top pro and anyone who gets that amount of goals from midfield is held in high regard in my view.

“He’s an England and Chelsea legend and he’s still doing it at the highest level so all you can do is applaud him.

“When you get in those areas you’ve just got to keep your composure and not snatch at the chances,” he added.

“When the first one went in it gave me a bit of confidence because I hadn’t played for a while and I hadn’t scored for a while so it was a big weight off the shoulders.

“The second one I just timed really nicely, Ismail Yakubu kept it alive and thankfully I just tucked it away.

“If I’m getting goals from midfield then it obviously helps my cause to stay in the side.”

Klukowski was also quick to praise the back four for a fantastic display at the weekend but warned that next Saturday’s home clash with Morecambe is just as important if they are to stay in the top seven.

“It felt like we hadn’t won for a while so we enjoyed it but we need to make sure we build on a fantastic win,” he said.

“It’s a big game against Morecambe now because if you win your home games and pick up wins at places like Wycombe then you give yourself a great chance of winning promotion.

“We’re fully behind what Jimmy and Wayne [Hatswell] are doing here,” he added. “We fully believe in them and it was nice to get a big win for them – the first under their stewardship.

“We enjoyed it but we won’t get carried away. You never want to lose games but we understand that every team is going to have dips and the draw against Tranmere and the win at Wycombe has got us back on track.”
