NEWPORT County AFC manager Terry Butcher could be in line for an amazing £250,000 boost to his transfer kitty thanks to an Exiles fan.

Dan Ward, from the Forest of Dean, has been selected at random from more than 100,000 football supporters to take his place in the final draw for the £250,000 Sky Bet Transfer Fund competition.

The eventual winner from the final ten fans will win £5,000 for themselves and a cool quarter of a million for their club to spend in the summer transfer window.

The draw takes place from midday at the Sky Sports Studios on Friday, July 10.

Ward, who owns a mobile app business, said: “It’s great, a real surprise!

“It would help Newport out so much – as they’re in a bit of trouble at the minute.

“The Sky Bet Transfer Fund would be great for them to have.

“There’s such a big gulf between Premier League and lower league clubs that this could really help them push forward after a good season last year.

“You never know, they might name a stand after me!”

Butcher said: “We wish Dan all the best in the final draw – we could certainly get some decent players in with that sort of money!”

Fans around the country entered the £250,000 Transfer Fund competition by linking their Sky Bet account to their favourite Football League club.

For every £1 bet they generated one Transfer Fund Token towards the draw.

Sky Bet will transfer funds to a Football League transfer fee account and the money will be available within 48 hours of the final draw.

The winning club must sign a new player or players using the Transfer Fund.

The Transfer Fund can only be used to cover player transfer fees, loan fees, the new player’s wages, VAT and applicable transfer levies.

It may include a payment schedule for a player agreed between two clubs and can be put towards a larger fee for a player or players but agents’ fees and additional admin costs will not be covered.

The winning club must spend a minimum of the Transfer Fund in the transfer window associated with the win.

As a League Two club if County were to win the prize they would have to spend at least 25 per cent of the Transfer Fund – £62,500 – this summer.

The surplus Transfer Fund – £187,500 – must be spent by the end of the next transfer window in January 2016.

If it is not used in this period the outstanding Transfer Fund would be returned to Sky Bet by the Football League.
