NEWPORT County AFC striker Scott Boden is guaranteed to have his number one fan drooling over his performance tomorrow and he wants the rest of the Rodney Parade faithful to follow suit.

Watching from the stands as County take on Yeovil Town in League Two will be Boden’s partner Chantelle and two-month old son Zachary.

The couple’s first child was born in the early hours of September 19 – meaning dad missed the 0-0 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge that afternoon.

The past eight weeks have passed by in a blur of nappies and training kit for Boden, who has started only three games since the birth of his son.

His life has changed for good off the pitch and now he wants to nail down a first team spot under new manager John Sheridan having replaced Zak Ansah in the starting XI in midweek.

“You can probably tell by the bags under my eyes that life is a lot different but I wouldn’t change it for the world,” said the 25-year-old.

“I can’t imagine my life without him now – it’s unbelievable, to be honest.”

But Boden is keen to point out that Zach’s arrival has not meant he’s taken his eye off the ball.

“My missus does to a lot of the work at night and I kind of go home after training and have a little play with him in the afternoon,” he explained.

“I wind him up and then he’s awake at night and she deals with it!

“If he gets up then sometimes I’m up as well – that’s the nature of being a dad I guess but I think I’ve definitely got the best deal.

“He has been to see me play,” added Boden. “But I don’t know whether he’s watched. I think he’s too busy drooling – he does more dribbling than I do!”

Boden came off the bench at Accrington Stanley last week to net his fifth goal of the season – one more than Lenell John-Lewis and own goals in the Exiles scoring charts – and he’s keen to remain top scorer.

“When I was a lot younger I used to play off the main striker but at my last two clubs I’ve been the top scorer so obviously coming here that’s something I want to do again,” he said

“If you’re not playing it is frustrating,” he added. “While we’re winning I don’t think anyone will complain too much but it was nice to be back in on Tuesday.

“It would have been nice to get a goal but we’ll see [if I’ve done enough]. I hope so.”
