JOHN Sheridan is hopeful of signing a striker before Thursday’s loan deadline.

Football League clubs will be unable to add to their squads, even with free agents, until January 1 and Sheridan is keen to add goals to his side.

“We want to bring a striker in, before Thursday I’m hoping to have one in,” he said.

“I’ve got a couple of players in mind and I just think it is a position we need to fill.

“Hopefully we do that before Thursday because with Zak Ansah going back, it will make the need that much greater.

“We aren’t getting those breaks for the goal we need, their goalkeeper had a good game on Saturday unfortunately for us.

“We aren’t getting the goals we need at home, I’ve looked at the numbers and we know it isn’t good enough.”

The manager was pleased with Saturday’s performance against fellow strugglers Yeovil, albeit frustrated not to have won the game, especially after a strong second half display.

“I thought we should have won the game, I thought it was a good performance from us, I really do,” he said.

“Especially in the second half, I’m disappointed we haven’t won and given ourselves that little advantage over Yeovil.

“But I was pleased with the way we played in the second half. In the first half we were a bit slow, I wanted us to play quicker, get the ball up quicker and put them on the back foot more than we had done.

“And in the second half we did that, the players responded really well and I can’t fault them for that. I think the supporters will appreciate we tried to win the game and looked a good team in the second half. Other than a couple of freekicks around the box, I was very comfortable.

“It’s a shame we didn’t get that little break, there were a few times with good balls going into the box, but we needed people to react quicker and just be a little bit more cute in the box.

“The best goals are little tap-ins, but we just didn’t get that break.

“I would have loved three points, but I’m happy with the way we played.

“Three points would have been massive for us, so it is a shame we couldn’t find that goal we needed.”
