NEWPORT County AFC have announced that Jason Turner is to leave his role as chief executive.

Turner was appointed in June last year, moving to Rodney Parade after leaving a similar same role at League Two rivals Plymouth Argyle.

During his time at the helm the Exiles have become a fan-owned club with the Newport County AFC Supporters Trust taking control in October.

Turner was also instrumental in bringing in John Sheridan as Terry Butcher’s successor.

A statement from the club reads: “The club can confirm that chief executive Jason Turner has resigned from his post.

“Turner, who joined the club from Plymouth Argyle six months ago, has expressed a wish to pursue other career opportunities.”

Director, Gavin Foxall, told the club website: “Whilst we did everything possible to retain Jason, unfortunately his mind was already firmly made up and we could not change his decision.

“His knowledge and experience will be a huge loss, but he will continue to assist us during a period of transition. We wish him well for the future and thank him for the excellent work he did during his time at the club.

"The board will be taking the opportunity to review the structure before making any appointment."
