NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney says he’ll consider incentive-based contracts for next season after offering Medy Elito £100 to break his scoring duck this week.

The ploy worked as Elito netted his first County goal in his 41st appearance to earn a point against Oxford United on Tuesday night.

“I’m not looking forward to giving Medy his £100 – I’ll have to fine him now to get some of it back,” joked the Exiles boss.

“It’ll do his confidence a world of good and I’m delighted for him.

“You start giving it to one and they’ll all want it but I love incentives. It’s a big thing with players.

“And that’s something that I will look at in the summer – incentive-based [contracts].

“I think it’s massive for football clubs to have incentives for players to go on and be a success.”

Elito will expect to keep his place for Saturday’s trip to Luton Town but Yan Klukowski (knee), Alex Rodman (groin), John-Christophe Ayina (knee) and Janoi Donacien (illness) are doubts.

“There are injuries there and they’ve come at the wrong time because you want everyone fit,” said Feeney. “But hopefully we can get them back for Saturday or the week after.”
