NEWPORT County AFC have paid a total of £16,680 in ‘Intermediary Fees’ to agents and agencies representing players this season.

Figures released by the Football Association as required under FIFA’s Regulations on Working with Intermediaries, introduced in April 2015, show the total payments made by clubs to Registered Intermediaries for the four-month period of October 1 last year to February 1 this year.

League Two clubs paid a total of £163,334 in Intermediary Fees during that period, with County among the biggest spenders.

The Exiles rank fifth behind Oxford United (£32,703), Leyton Orient (£19,823), Portsmouth (£19,549) and Northampton Town (£17,180).

Accrington Stanley, AFC Wimbledon, Cambridge United, Hartlepool United, Mansfield Town and Morecambe all spent nothing on Intermediary Fees, while Wycombe Wanderers and Dagenham & Redbridge paid out just £300 and £750 respectively.

County were required to pay fees to Registered Intermediaries for the signings of Rhys Taylor, Scott Barrow, Lenell John-Lewis, Alex Rodman, Andrew Hughes, Matt Taylor, Nathan Ralph, Seth Nana Twumasi, Medy Elito, Danny Holmes, Scott Boden and Matt Partridge.

All were signed by Terry Butcher last summer before he was sacked in October 2015.

In response, the club released the following statement:

"Today the FA has made public the payments that each club has made to agents and intermediaries in the period 1st October 2015 to 1st February 2016.

"As part of our transparency commitment, the club’s directors feel that it is necessary to relay to fans the reasoning behind such costs and how measures are now in place to ensure that such costs will be reduced in the future.

"The figures released today refer to signings made at the start of the season by the previous administration.

"As a board, we are putting in measures to ensure better planning in the approach to future transfer windows, along with controls in place to reduce spending in such areas.

"We anticipate that costs of this nature will reduce significantly next season."

The information released represents all transactions involving clubs where an intermediary was used from April 2015 to February 2016.
