NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney has warned his players not to take too long weighing up their contract offers.

Mark Byrne, Andrew Hughes, Alex Rodman, Danny Holmes, Darren Jones, Scott Boden, John-Christophe Ayina and Medy Elito have all been offered new deals.

Feeney wants them signed up as soon as possible so he can concentrate on adding quality new additions to the core of last season’s squad.

And, with hundreds of players released from clubs throughout the country this month, he has warned them not to keep him waiting for too long.

“Some players will get their heads turned but I think we’ve made them very good offers,” said the Exiles boss.

“I’ve said to them ‘take your time, but don’t wait too long’ because there are a lot of players out there and I’ve got my eye on other players.

“The players will want to get their future sorted as well.

“They won’t want to be lying on their sun loungers and ringing their agents desperate for news so hopefully it’s sorted sooner rather than later.”

Feeney is also speaking to potential new signings but no agreements have been reached yet.

Having released eight players this week and with not all of those offered contracts certain to remain he is prepared for a busy summer.

Defender Scott Barrow was one of those released on Tuesday – along with Matt Partridge, Rhys Taylor, Joe Green, Yan Klukowski, Seth Nana Twumasi, Nathan Ralph and Dean Morgan.

After being told that his County career was over, Barrow said: “I’m a bit shocked, to be honest. I thought I’d done enough to earn a new contract.

“I was pretty confident because I think my performances this year have been good.”

While midfielder Klukowski said: “I leave knowing that when played in my position I scored goals and played well in League Two and that is my frustration.

“I think the fans would have seen a different player if given the opportunity more regularly.”

But Feeney has again reiterated that his decisions were not personal and were made to improve a squad that finished 22nd in League Two in the 2015-2016 campaign.

“There were some difficult decisions,” said the manager.

“It’s never nice but the club has to move forward and I want to bring in my own players.

“Some players will think they did enough but we’ve been bottom of the table nearly all season and we finished 90th out of 92 in the Football League.

“You can’t just go with what you’ve got, you have to change it round.”
