NEWPORT County AFC have made winger Jack Compton their latest summer signing.

The 27-seven-year-old, born in Cardiff, returns to Wales to join Warren Feeney’s Exiles squad.

Compton started his youth career with Portsmouth and then switched to West Brom aged 17.

He moved north of the border in 2010 for a spell at Falkirk, making more than 30 appearances before rejoining Pompey.

The wide man expanded his experience of the Football League with spells at Colchester United and Hartlepool United and spent last season at League Two outfit Yeovil Town, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances.

Speaking about his move to Rodney Parade, Compton believes coming back to his homeland will help him thrive on the pitch.

“I'm delighted to get everything signed and over the line today,” he said.

“It is good to be back playing in Wales. My friends and family are used to travelling across the country to see me play, so playing so close to home will make it a lot easier for them, and that can only benefit me on the pitch.

“I'm an out and out winger and I like to attack defenders and hopefully create chances for the players around me.”

Feeney added: “Jack is another signing that has a great deal of experience at this level.

“I am a big fan of my wingers and Jack has got a great left foot and has a great amount of pace.

“The squad is starting to shape up quite nicely. There are a couple of more faces to come in, but I'm very happy with the signings we have been able to secure so far this summer.”
