AFTER ending his pursuit of Reuben Reid, Newport County AFC manager Warren Feeney says he won’t be looking to sign any other free agents between now and January.

Feeney revealed on Saturday that the deal to bring former Plymouth Argyle striker Reid to Rodney Parade was dead.

And, despite saying last week that he was talking to more than one unattached player, the Exiles boss now insists that he will not strengthen his squad again until the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

“That will be me now until January,” said Feeney.

“I think we’ve got a good enough squad and you could see that with the players who missed out on being on the bench on Saturday.

“I’m pleased with what we’ve got and we’ve got to focus on them now.

“And the people who are in there have got to make sure that they’re doing the business week in and week out.”

Feeney left out loan forward Jordan Green and midfielders Jennison Myrie-Williams and Tom Owen-Evans for the match against Barnet, which was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch.

And Josh Sheehan, on loan from Swansea, was unavailable as he was on international duty.

The midfielder, on loan from Swansea City, started alongside former County star Regan Poole as Wales under-21s took on Luxembourg in Bangor this evening.

Sheehan will be back in contention for this Saturday’s home clash with Cheltenham Town and, despite being impressed with his side’s 45-minute display against Barnet, Feeney says he may make changes.

“There were some very good performances,” he said. “Bar the first five minutes when we couldn’t get going I thought we were absolutely superb.

“But you’ve got to go game by game and see what the opposition’s weakness is and I know Cheltenham have changed their formation a couple of times.

“Gary [Johnson] is very experienced – he’s managed up to the Championship – so it’s going to be a difficult game for us.”

Feeney will hope that Cheltenham reserves’ 7-1 victory over a youthful County side in today’s friendly match will not be an omen for Saturday’s League Two showdown.

The first team squad took part in a practice game at Spytty Park at the same time.
