IT’S a good thing for Kyle Cameron that football is a universal language, as he admits that his Newport County AFC teammates are struggling getting to grips with his Geordie accent.

The deadline day loan signing from Newcastle United has made the move south in a bid to get more first-team football under his belt.

And he could make his Exiles debut today when Warren Feeney’s men welcome Cheltenham Town to Rodney Parade in Sky Bet League Two (3pm).

The 19-year-old product of Morpeth, a town 15 miles north of Newcastle, is settling into his new club nicely, although it has not been all plain sailing.

“I’ve been here since last Thursday and I’m really enjoying it,” said the defender, who made his Football League debut against County last season while on loan with York City.

“I’m just looking forward to getting on the pitch and hopefully getting some minutes.

“You get a bit of everything when you’re on loan. You learn a lot. You’re living away from home as well so it’s not just on the football pitch, although you obviously learn a lot there.

“You learn a lot in training but just in general off the pitch you learn a lot as well.

“On the pitch you’re always learning little things off the senior lads who are always helping you and giving you tips to take into games.”

He went on to add: “Going away last year (to York) has given me a lot of experience and a lot of little things that I can use in the games to hopefully keep me on the right track.

“I’m still learning everyone’s names here but I’ve got most of them down now.

“A few of the boys don’t understand what I’m saying sometimes so I’ve got to repeat myself.”

Cameron, whose County loan is scheduled to run until early next January, played alongside current Exiles skipper Scot Bennett while at York earlier this year.

“He was really good,” said Cameron about County’s captain. “When he came in he gave the back four that extra quality and in midfield when he played there.

“He’s good on the ball and can read things well so it’s always good to have him next to you.

“He is staying with me a couple of nights through the week so I’m always talking to him and he’s always helping me.”
