AROUND 13 months ago I stood on a wet terrace in Bristol and thought to myself ‘it doesn’t get better than this’.

That 4-1 win against Bristol Rovers was the last time I can say I watched the last 10 minutes of the game knowing we had won.

As a pessimistic fan I need a three-goal cushion to relax and County’s performance at Notts County gave me just that. That game was nothing short of incredible.

Since starting writing for the Argus a few weeks ago I feel I’ve written almost every superlative in the world but the fact is County are getting better week on week and the Exiles’ win at Meadow Lane was for me the best yet.

Carlisle United are a better team than Notts County, and we played excellently to defeat them, but this is a play-off chasing team that we embarrassed in front of their home fans.

Not many teams at this level do that to any team, especially to one of the bigger sides in the league. More importantly, not many relegated teams will perform like that.

Starting at the back, they rarely threatened us and when they did Scot Bennett and Darren Jones worked tirelessly for the clean sheet.

Joe Day dealt with the chances they made, but you can’t help but feel the Exiles may not have enjoyed such a great day if Jon Stead and Jonathan Forte had been fit to play for John Sheridan’s side.

It was a dominant midfield display again and Ben Tozer and Sean Rigg both have been so much better since the arrival of Graham Westley.

Meanwhile Josh Sheehan, or ‘Sheeinesta’ as I’m calling him after his similarity to Barcelona creative midfielder Andres Iniesta, once again performed exceptionally.

There were brilliant creative moves in the middle but also on the wings, tenacious energy and an absolute beauty of a goal!

Shadowed by the Swansea loanee’s strike, Rhys Healey’s second goal was ultimately very impressive too.

He’s a striker I like an awful lot, his work ethic in a game is sublime and reading of plays is encouraging.

He’s rewarded too, he works and he gets his opportunity and as a good striker he knows how to finish too.

He was unlucky not to get another with the one-on-one but he did so well to squeeze a move through both centre-half’s his potential is certainly exciting.

Confidence will be booming, a 3-0 win and it could’ve easily be a few more!

Tomorrow’s tie against Wycombe is one I’m really looking forward to.

They’ve picked up the least amount of points on the road, and I think with two brilliant performances in the league we can go into the game expecting at least a point.

Blackpool away will be much tougher; they’ve got some quality players and have a strong home record.

It’s a different sort of test for Westley to go and take something from a much bigger club, but I think we may just nick a point.
