TEENAGE talent Tom Owen-Evans wants to help Newport County AFC start another unbeaten run at Blackpool tomorrow.

County returned to the bottom of League Two after an unfortunate late defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday – their first loss in eight matches.

Owen-Evans played the whole second half in midweek after replacing Jack Jebb at the break and he’s pushing for a starting spot at Bloomfield Road.

And the 19-year-old says the Exiles will be aiming to do to the Tangerines what they did to Notts County in a 3-0 win at Meadow Lane last Saturday.

“I don’t think we deserved to lose the game the other night,” said Owen-Evans.

“But I think it’s a little blip and we’ll put it right on Saturday and go and get three points at Blackpool like we did at Notts County.

“We know the quality is there and everyone believes in each other.

“We can go to Blackpool, hopefully it will be a better pitch and we can play our game.

“We know we’ve got quality – we’re good footballers – and we want to do what we did at Notts County.

“We want to start another unbeaten run and go as high up the table as we can.”

Owen-Evans is delighted to be back at the club after a successful loan spell with former County boss Tim Harris at Gloucester City and he feels he’s benefited from the game-time he got in the National League North.

“Obviously I wasn’t playing games at Newport at the start of the season so I wanted to get out on loan,” he said.

“I’m at an age where I need to develop my game and get minutes under my belt.

“I went to Gloucester and played four or five games there and just got my confidence back and got back in the habit of playing football.

“It’s definitely helped my development but obviously I’m buzzing to be back and it’s been good to be straight back in to the first team rather than have to wait for my chance again.

“I’m really pleased that I’ve come straight in and done well.

“The manager has spoken highly of me in interviews and he’s said he’s pleased with my performances in games. He’s told me I’ve got a big future.

“Obviously there’s a few things I need to work on but if I keep working hard I can go as far as I want hopefully.”

Owen-Evans has come off the bench in four games since being recalled but he doesn’t want to be seen as an impact sub forever.

“Obviously I want to be starting and playing as many minutes as possible,” he said.

“But I’d rather be making an impact and doing what I can for the team off the bench than not playing at all so for me it’s good at the moment.”
