NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley admits he is embarrassed and humiliated by the club’s run of eight successive defeats in League Two.

With more than 850 matches under his belt as a manager, Westley has a win percentage of 45.7 per cent.

But he has won just 20 per cent of his matches as Exiles boss so far and the current run is hurting Westley.

“It’s embarrassing, humiliating,” he said.

“Even though you can perhaps in your own mind justify that you’ve inherited one hell of a bad run – a team that was doing a lot of losing.

“You try to make a difference to it and when you don’t make a difference to it it’s painful.

“But I am quite philosophical. I did believe when I walked in the door that there were missing ingredients.

“I’ve believed since I’ve been here that there’s been missing ingredients.

“And we’ve gone into January and hopefully I’m showing that I mean it.”

Westley has signed eight players since January 1, with seven heading out of the door, and there will be more comings and goings before the window shuts at the end of the month.

“We haven’t got what it takes to win games consistently at this football club, that’s obvious,” he added.

“Anyone who’s watching the team can see that so there’s no point me trying to paper over the cracks.

“They’re there and we’re doing something about. We’re taking action.

“It’s a fool who thinks if you keep doing the same things you’re going to get different results – you don’t.

“What’s happened at the club over the last few years proves that.

“It’s time for change, time for action and we’re taking the action.

“We’ve got to mould together a group that can win games.

“I’m bringing in lads who I think are better than the lads who are going out, and I say that with respect to the lads that are going out.

“We’ve got some terrific players joining the club with good experience – Championship pedigree.

“It’s about bringing those players together and getting them doing what the club wants, which is winning football games.”
