“I’D LOVE a late goal” I said to my friend Charlie, and I couldn’t stop myself from over-celebrating as Jaanai Gordon scored late on to Cheltenham.

By no means was the Whaddon Road encounter good viewing for a neutral but the scenes in the away section will be one of the highlights of the season.

I hope that the good away following will be encouraged to come and support their team on the road, with winnable games at Cambridge, Mansfield and Crewe coming up in the next few weeks.

A draw in what felt a mightily important game left the amber army purring, and no one can fault the efforts and spirit shown by Graham Westley’s men.

Last week’s victory showed Exiles supporters they have the ability to win games in League Two, and Saturday showed the hunger too.

David Pipe, a player who shows the same passion as the fans, once again gave absolutely everything.

And, although the quality of football is far from brilliant, Westley’s influence is beginning to show with players more energetic for longer in games and seeming to just find that next gear.

Warren Feeney’s team were unlucky, often playing well but being left empty handed; whether it was his inexperience as a manager or the new additions making the difference, County are finding the clinical edge to go out and be rewarded for their hard work.

As the season begins to draw into the final few months it’s the time for teams to step up and prove they’ve got what it takes to be promoted or survive, County have stepped up but consistency is vital.

The tough test of leaders Doncaster awaits County at Rodney Parade on Friday night, but they’ll be more wary of us after a good run of results.

Even if playing on Friday evening isn’t ideal for supporters, County are handed a massive opportunity to prove their worth.

Fans of the fellow strugglers will be keeping a close eye on what happens, with their team not playing their attention will be on County more than a Saturday afternoon.

To get something against the table toppers would really make a statement.
