NEWPORT County AFC said a special thank-you to their travelling fans at Morecambe by presenting each of them with a free away shirt before the match.

All 48 fans who made the 448-mile round-trip to the Lancashire coast received a replica shirt from the players after they completed their warm-up.

A club statement said: “The gesture of goodwill by the club recognises the supporters who have not only made the long midweek trip to the North West, but many of whom also travelled to Crewe on Saturday – covering 740 miles in the past few days.”

The Exiles fans were further rewarded for their efforts as they saw their team claim a second successive win to climb off the bottom of the League Two table.

And caretaker boss Michael Flynn praised the contribution that the supporters had made.

“I thought the fans who travelled up were absolutely outstanding,” he said.

“I think they’re starting to realise how crucial they are to this club and I thought it was a great gesture by the club to give them all a shirt.

“It just shows how we’re all together, we’re all pulling in the right direction and we’re all one.”

Supporters will have fewer miles to travel for the next two games as County host Blackpool on Saturday afternoon before welcoming Luton Town to Rodney Parade next Tuesday night.

Tickets for both matches can be purchased in person from the ticket office between 10am and 3pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and online at newportcountytickets.co.uk.

A special promotion also means that season ticket holders can bring a friend for free to the match against Luton.

Each season ticket holder is entitled to one free ticket.

Every effort will be made to seat the tickets together but reasonable exceptions may have to be made.

Tickets must be collected from the ticket office before 5pm on the day of the match and are not available for purchase online.

You must bring your season ticket with you on collection.
