AFC Bournemouth striker Joe Quigley has completed his loan move to Newport County AFC.

The 20-year-old arrives at Rodney Parade on a deal that runs through to January.

Quigley has previously played on loan at Poole Town, Torquay United, Wrexham, Woking and Gillingham.

The Hayes-born front man was also called up to the Ireland under-21 squad in March but has yet to win a cap.

County manager Michael Flynn is delighted to land a player who was close to joining League One Blackpool earlier this month.

“He’s strong, he gets hold of the ball and he did well when he was on loan at Gillingham last season before he got injured,” said the Exiles boss.

“He’s got a really good fighting spirit and attitude.

“He did his cruciate when he was at Gillingham and he actually carried on playing so that tells me that he’s got a bit about him.

“He’s somebody that we’ve been keeping tabs on,” he added.

“He nearly went to a League One team but that broke down at the last minute so hopefully their loss is our gain.”

Flynn says the signing of Quigley will allow him to change his attacking approach if necessary.

“He will bring competition and a different dimension,” he explained.

“He’s 6ft 3ins, he’s strong and he can run in behind so he gives us that more central figure if we want to play three up front.

“He can also play in a two so he gives us more options and more competition because with Aaron going out on loan we needed another one or possibly two in.”

South Wales Argus:

Talking to iFollowExiles this morning, Quigley (above) said: “I’m delighted to sign a loan deal at Newport County.

“I’ve come in this morning and I knew a couple of the lads before but they’ve all been sound. “It’s a club on the up and I’m delighted to be here for the journey.”

Quigley should be available for tomorrow’s League Two trip to Coventry City and Tuesday’s Carabao Cup clash at Leeds United, subject to international clearance.

But the striker could miss the league match at Exeter City on September 2 if he’s selected for the Irish under-21 squad ahead of their Euro 2019 qualifier in Azerbaijan on September 5.
