NEWPORT County AFC manager Michael Flynn believes the 5-1 defeat to Leeds United was harsh on his side.

Joss Labadie gave County the lead at Elland Road and had the 631 away fans dreaming of a shock win

But a hat-trick from Kemar Roofe and late goals for Sam Saiz and Ronaldo Vieira saw the hosts comfortably into round three of the Carabao Cup.

"I thought it was a bit flattering for Leeds," said the Exiles boss.

"But you could see the quality the Championship side have got where they take their chances and anticipate things in the box.

South Wales Argus:

"There were some things that concerned me and I've just said that to the players.

"But we played some fantastic football and created a lot of good chances and you need to be prepared and put your neck on the line and get on the end of one."

County, who return to Rodney Parade to host Chesterfield in League Two on Saturday, will wait to find out how much money they have made from their share of the gate receipts.

The attendance was 17,098 and Leeds have said they will give County a 45 per cent cut.
