MICHAEL Flynn is not concerned by rumours over the future of loan star Ben White – as long as he keeps up his excellent form for Newport County AFC.

White has been a big hit at Rodney Parade since arriving on loan from Premier League new boys Brighton & Hove Albion last August.

The 20-year-old centre-back has made 40 appearances so far this season and his impressive form in League Two and in County’s Carabao Cup and FA Cup campaigns has caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in the land.

White is reported to have turned down the offer of a new contract from Brighton amid interest from Champions League giants Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino got a good look at the young defender during the two FA Cup ties against the Exiles in January and February.

White and teammates kept the likes of Erik Lamela, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min out for the majority of the first match before a late Kane goal took the game to a replay at Wembley, which the hosts won 2-0.

His current contract with the Seagulls runs until June 2019 and the Brighton Argus claims that talks about a new deal are still ongoing.

Born in Poole in Dorset and released by Southampton as a youngster, White moved to Brighton and made his first team debut aged 18 in the Carabao Cup at the start of last season.

He made two appearances in the competition and was an unused substitute in the opening four matches of Albion’s Championship promotion campaign.

Asked about White’s situation, Exiles boss Flynn said: “I’ve never had any doubts in his ability but I’m not going to comment on speculation – I think that would be disrespectful to Brighton.

“That’s nothing to do with me. All I’m concerned about is that he keeps performing for this football club until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Flynn has revealed that Swansea City loanee Tyler Reid (above) is working hard to improve his fitness.

The 20-year-old arrived on loan in January but has made just three appearances so far and has not featured since starting at Colchester on February 3.

After that match, Flynn said of Reid: “He needs to get fitter. He started bright but he blew up.”

Speaking before today’s home clash with Accrington Stanley was postponed, Flynn said: “We’ve got Tyler on a fitness regime.

“He can do all the short, sharp stuff all day long but it’s the endurance that he needs to improve on.

“We’ve been working with him on that to get him in a good condition and ready to step in if we need him.”
