A SECTION of Rodney Parade closed for Newport County AFC matches after crowd incidents earlier this season is to remain shut until the end of the club’s League Two campaign.

The area of the Hazell Terrace located behind the dugouts has been a no-go zone for Exiles fans following reports of coin throwing in the games against Carlisle United and Lincoln City.

And at a Supporters Trust open meeting at the ground tonight, supporters were told by chief executive Alex Tunbridge that the terracing in question would continue to be out of bounds.

County have already received a formal warning about the incidents, which are currently being investigated by the police, and worse could follow if there was to be a repeat.

A financial penalty and possible points deduction are the punishments facing the club if the unruly behaviour persists.

Tunbridge confirmed that the club has banned one fan for throwing the ball at an assistant referee during the Lincoln clash on January 30.

Meanwhile, as well as unveiling the side’s new third kit for next season and announcing 2018-19 season ticket and matchday ticket prices, Tunbridge revealed the financial reward of the FA Cup run.

The Exiles made around £700,000 from their three victories and two ties with Spurs, just under 50% of which was made up of television money.

The extra seats in the South Stand that were brought in for the Tottenham home game will be kept for the rest of the season.

As for those ticket prices, from next season supporters will pay less if they make purchases online, while season ticket holders can save up to £50 by renewing for 2018-19.

Trust chairman Shaun Johnson spoke about the club’s last board meeting, stating that manager Michael Flynn was “very happy” with the current playing budget.

He also said that on the back of their memorable cup run, the Exiles would be hoping to secure pre-season friendlies against some big names.

The issue of County’s Rodney Parade lease, which has another four years to run, was discussed, with Johnson of the opinion that Spytty Park would be their most likely destination if they needed to move.

Though he was quick to point out that he had “no ambition to go back there in its current format”.
