County star Sam Foley signs for Yeovil

South Wales Argus: Spytty exit: Sam Foley Spytty exit: Sam Foley

FANS' favourite Sam Foley has left Newport County to sign for League One Yeovil Town.

The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer and played his last game for the Exiles in the FA Trophy final defeat to York City at Wembley.

County have not commented on Foley's departure but a statement released on the Yeovil Town website confirmed the news this afternoon.

The statement reads: "Yeovil Town Football Club can confirm that they have agreed to sign attacker Sam Foley on a one year deal on July 1st which will be reviewed at Christmas.

"The 25-year-old Irishman joins the Glovers from Blue Square Premier side Newport County for whom he hit thirty goals in the past two seasons though half of his games have been as a substitute.

"Sam began his career at Cheltenham Town as a trainee before moving to Kidderminster before joining the BSP side in August 2010. He represented his country, Republic of Ireland, at under-18 level."

Manager Gary Johnson, speaking to www.ytfc.net said "Sam won't be a familiar name to Yeovil supporters but he has had two great seasons of success with Newport in the non league as his nine minute clip of goals on YouTube will show you.

"We beat several other league clubs to his signature and I am very hopeful Sam will keep on improving."
