WREXHAM V COUNTY (Tomorrow, KO 1pm)

BLUE Square Bet Premier manager of the month Justin Edinburgh is hoping September can be as good as August has been for Newport County AFC.

The Exiles boss picked up the award on Wednesday after leading his side to five successive victories and star striker Aaron O’Connor was named player of the month having scored six goals in those five matches.

Confidence is high at Rodney Parade after a thrilling 2-0 victory over Hereford United on Tuesday night and with a trip to Welsh rivals Wrexham tomorrow the excitement shows no signs of dying down any time soon.

Edinburgh is delighted with how his players have started the season and admits his main job at the moment is keeping expectation levels at a minimum.

“Tuesday was a fantastic night for us and one that we’ll remember for a long time but we move on now and focus on a big game at Wrexham,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure we remain confident rather than arrogant and unrealistic.

“It’s my job to keep the players’ feet on the ground but we have also earned the right to enjoy it.

“They’re a new group and I’m learning a lot about them with every game. They are working hard for each other at the moment and we’ve got to keep that going.

“We look forward to going to Wrexham, which we know will be another tough game.

“I’m sure we will take a lot of support up there and we’ll look to get another result.

“We’re unbeaten and every game gets bigger and tougher,” he added. “There’s more expectation with each game but we’ve shown a level of commitment that has really pleased me.”

Edinburgh was particularly pleased with the performance of goalkeeper Lenny Pidge-ley, who saved a penalty against the Bulls.

“I think he’s getting better with every game,” said the manager. “He hasn’t played a lot of football over the last two years but his penalty save was superb and his handling was excellent.”

Edinburgh is likely to name an unchanged side at the Racecourse with the only dilemma being whether to recall Jake Thomson in place of Lee Evans.

Wrexham are missing centre-back Mark Creighton for the remainder of the season with a cruciate knee injury but have Jay Harris back from suspension.

Player-manager Andy Morrell is also hoping to bring in former County hero Danny Rose from Fleetwood before tomorrow’s match.
