NEWPORT County AFC fans looking for insurance, holidays, clothes or mobile phones online can now help raise money for the club as they shop.

The Newport County AFC Trust online shop at www.countyshop.co.uk has a selection of retailers who will pay a pre-determined amount of commission for every purchase.

Fans can visit stores through the A to Z of shops on the site and the retailer will pay the club a percentage of every sale.

"For example, Aviva insurance pay £60 to your cause for every new home or motor insurance policy taken out with them provided you have accessed their site via the trust shop gateway," said organiser Andrew Perry.

There are more than a thousand retailers to choose from, including many high street names.

"It is free to use and this shop has the potential to provide a valuable income stream to Newport County while also spreading the burden of fundraising," said Perry.

"The shop was running for 18 months and had made £150.

"In May 2010 I took control of the shop and it made £3,000 in 18 months and has made £8,000 in the last 12 months.

"We've made more than £11,000 in two and a half years to make us number one in the country out of 10,000 other shops and I would estimate that no more than 40 people use it regularly," added Perry.

"The aim now is to lift the profile. Word of mouth is vital to the success of this initiative.

"If we could get a realistic figure of 200 regular users then an annual income of £20,000 to £40,000 is achievable, which could prove invaluable year on year.

"It's very easy to use but we just need more people to know about it and you don't have to be a County fan. You can get friends and family involved as well."
