IT was Cup week in the District League on Saturday with the Dennis Herbert Senior Bowl (second round) and the Greyhound Junior Cup (first round) being played. The five games played in the Senior Bowl brought a few unlikely scores.

Pontnewydd United caused the biggest surprise of the day with an 8-4 win against previous cup winners Lliswerry.

Darren Beckett, Leigh Tudball, Craig Fairclough (two) and Luke Griffin (four) scored for United.

The Cwmbran Derby between Oakfield Inn and Lucas Cwmbran ended with a resounding win of 6-1 to Lucas Cwmbran.

Four of the Lucas goals came from their subs Mike Edwards, Dave Carr (two) and Daniel Parsons with a further two from Simon Edwards and Derrick Williams.

The Premier Y clash between AC Pontymister and Cwmbran Celtic ended with a 6-1 win for Pontymister with two hat-tricks from Adam Morris and Jamie Lewis.

The Docks Cons and Trethomas Bluebirds ended 2-2 after extra time, with the Docks Cons winning 4-2 on penalties.

Premier X new boys FC Boilermakers showed their class with an 8-0 win against Marshfield with goals from Liam Caston, Liam Smith, William Ridler, Adam Chambers, Joshua Muir (two) and Michael White.

In the Greyhound Junior Cup the biggest score of the day was Pioneer’s 10-0 win over AC Pontymister from the third division.

Lucas Cwmbran (seconds) made it a double for the club with a 7-4 win at home to Bettws Socialdad. The goals came from Anthony Hyde, Daniel Crowden, Daniel Parfitt (three), Kyle Harvey, plus an own goal.

Five goals from James Lewis, Zac Chard, Carlos Ross, Clayton Roberts and Joe Clarke gave new boys Maesglas United a 5-3 cup win against Coed Eva Athletic.

Division one leaders Rogerstone were far too strong for Cromwell Youth, winning 8-1 at Llanwern School. Rhys Jones, Karl Whittaker (2), Ryan Davy, Jon Cranham and Adam Price got the goals.

Albion Rovers went down 3-1 at home to Crosskeys. Andrew Sillet, Joe Bateman and Nick Madden scored. FC Rileys gained a 4-2 win over Spencer Boys Club, after having to reverse the fixture due to their pitch being unplayable.

Three goals from Adrian Blair, Wayne Pewtner and Damon Warner gave Cwmcarn Athletic a 3-0 win over Rogerstone.

Infusion Sports Bar and Shaftesbury Youth went to extra time before Infusion gained a 4-3 advantage through Mike Vaux, Alex Sim and Leroy Brown goals.

Six goals from Greg Taylor (two), Jack Baiton, Jack Taylor, Owain Hackling and Luke Howard gave AC Pontymister a 6-0 win over Pontnewydd United.

Albion Rovers eased into the next round with a 7-2 win away to Machen.

Ponthir won 5-1 at home to Risca Athletic.

The third division clash between Pill AFC and Racing Club Newport ended in a 5-2 win for Racing Club, their goals coming from David Cooke, Jamie Palmer, Lloyd Watts, Kurtis Sanders and Richie Barrett.

The Docks Cons seconds drew 3-3 with Llanyrafon after extra time before going down 7-6 on penalties.

Pill AFC from division one gained a 5-1 win over K2 AFC, with goals from Daniel Stoneman (2), Roy Bennett (2) and Joe O’Connell.

Two league games also took place on Saturday.

In the Premier X Machen FC beat Newport Eagles 5-2 at Shaftesbury Park.

In the Premier Y Albion Rovers gained a 7-1 win away to Spencer BC, with Thomas Hendley, Darryl Cashman, Luke Whittingham (three) and Mike Evans (two) scoring.

In the Monmouthshire Building Society Sunday Cup, Lysaghts FC reached the final after a 6-4 win against RMS Llanwern United at Llanwern School.

Two goals each from Aaron Compton, Omar Watson and Steve Channing sealed the win.
