WALES manager Chris Coleman says the decision to select Aaron Ramsey for next week’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Serbia was a “no-brainer” – even if the Arsenal star is not fit to play 90 minutes.

Ramsey missed the first three qualifiers – a win over Moldova and draws with Austria and Georgia – after picking up a hamstring injury on the first weekend of the Premier League season.

But he returned for Arsenal from the bench in Saturday’s win at Sunderland and played 75 minutes from the start in the Gunners’ Champions League win at Ludogorets on Tuesday, creating a goal for Oliver Giroud.

And Coleman is delighted to have the star of Euro 2016 back in the fold, though he has to come through Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur first.

"He played 75 minutes and he looks fit,” said the Wales boss. “It was a no-brainer. He is a huge part of what we are trying to do – a massive part of that with the talent he possesses.

"It was pleasing to see he got so much game-time and he got an assist for the second goal, so fantastic.”

Asked if Ramsey would be ready to play 90 minutes against Serbia in Cardiff, Coleman added: "We have never taken risks with players, and we wouldn't with Aaron Ramsey.

“With somebody as good as Aaron, something is better than nothing, but we will have to wait and see after this weekend."

Coleman, who was today shortlisted for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016 award, also welcomed news of Gareth Bale’s new contract at Real Madrid.

"That's where he belongs – he belongs at that level. He belongs in that spotlight," said the national manager.

"When he first moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid, I said then he would get better and better, and he has.

"Two Champions Leagues in three years is an unbelievable return.

“You have to look at him as probably the most successful player to come from this way to go that way (abroad). To do what he has done is absolutely amazing.

"If you could put together a player with all the best attributes, he's got them all. He is only going to get better.

"I think it is a great signing for Madrid, and it is obviously great for Gareth, because they are a fantastic football club."
