NEWPORT County AFC defender Jay Foulston scored his first international goal to earn Wales under-19s a 1-0 win over Hungary in the Slovakia Cup this afternoon.

The 17-year-old Exiles academy graduate, who signed his first professional contract last month, headed in midway through the first half for Paul Bodin’s side.

Writing on Twitter afterwards, Foulston said: “Great shift from the lads to win 1-0, happy to score my first international goal.”

County’s Lewis Collins also started the match and under-19 manager Bodin said afterwards: “We’re really, really pleased.

“Every player to a man implemented what we were looking for and there were some terrific performances out there.

“That winning feeling in football is something you can’t replicate.”

Wales lost their first two games in the competition to Slovakia and Azerbaijan.

They play their final against Ukraine tomorrow. The match will decide fifth and sixth place.
