NEWPORT'S Chris Gunter could be heading back to Wales after after Premier League side Swansea City tabled a £2m bid for the defender.
Gunter's club Nottingham Forest are likely to reject the offer for the Welsh international, despite the continued uncertainty over their financial future.
But Forest's resolve may be tested if the Swans return with an improved bid for the 22-year-old, who they paid £1.75m for when he joined from Tottenham in 2009.
Norwich and Bolton both made enquiries about Gunter in January but the full-back insisted he wanted to remain at Forest to help their fight against relegation.
Gunter did not want to move to a club as a squad player, having left Spurs in search of regular first-team football.
And he may seek similar assurances before considering a move elsewhere this time around.
Having begun his carrer at Cardiff City, however, a move to their bitter west Wales rivals would be controversial.
