JEFFERSON Loius looks to have played his last game for Newport County AFC after agreeing to a loan move to Whitehawk FC yesterday.

The veteran striker joins the Brighton-based Ryman Premier League side on loan until January 1 when his County contract expires.

It will be the 27th different club of Louis’ nomadic career and, while he could return to Rodney Parade, Exiles assistant manager Jimmy Dack believes the 33-year-old’s future lies elsewhere.

"Jeff’s going to Whitehawk. He’s had a Conference club come in for him and a Conference South club but he’s decided that this was the right move for him," explained Dack.

"He’s worked hard to get back into the team and I feel sorry for him because he’s a great lad but he wants to play – that’s his mentality.

"He had a great start to the season but he lost a bit of confidence. If you don’t take your chances then all of a sudden that goal starts looking a bit smaller.

"The door’s not shut here – Justin and myself really like Jeff and we enjoy working with him – but he might want a new challenge."

Having brought in Michael Smith and Christian Jolley on loan this month, the Exiles decided not to add further to the squad before yesterday’s 5pm deadline for emergency loans.

"We’re trying to get one more out on loan to balance up the books a bit but it has to be right for the players, added Dack.

"Someone did come in for Jake Harris but he decided he didn’t want to drop down one league.

"He thinks he’s a Conference player and he’s going to stay and fight for his place, although obviously we’ve got Jolley and Smith in now.

"As for Ryan Charles, I don’t think the Newport fans have seen the best of him. He trains so well but it’s frustrating because he can’t seem to translate that to the games."

County head to Conference South promotion candidates Welling United in the FA Trophy tomorrow desperate to put their wretched league form behind them and start what they hope will be a return journey to Wembley after reaching the final last season.

It’s a club Dack knows well as he was assistant manager there for the 2008-09 campaign.

"I had a season at Welling and I really enjoyed it there," said Dack.

"Justin and I know (player -manager) Jamie Day from Grays and he’s doing a great job. We think a lot of (ex-County defender) Fraser Franks as well and he’s doing well for them.

"But we’ve just got to concentrate on ourselves. We’ve had a difficult few weeks but we are working very hard in training to get back on track.

"Sometimes results don’t go for you but the players are trying their hardest and that is all you can ask."

So happy that Jake Harris is staying. He has a lot of potential. And I'm sure he will make good eventually. Good luck to the County tomorrow.

He's only staying because he won't go. Don't expect him to figure too much.

WELLING V NEWPORT COUNTY FA TROPHY.

the start of another wembley dream?

this match has taken on so much importance

its a chance for county to banish their recent poor form before a tricky december schedule, that could make of break their season.

another defeat and confidence will be at an all time low.

win and they can look forward to gateshead with relish.

jake harris is young, and is showing the grit and determination to be prove justin wrong.

are you going to give JAKE a run out tomorrow , like last season.
