Welling 2 County 0

NEWPORT County AFC's hopes of a return to Wembley in the FA Trophy are over at the first hurdle after a disappointing defeat at Conference South Welling United.

Goals either side of half-time from Joe Healy and Ben Martin sealed a comfortable win for the hosts on a wet and wild afternoon in Kent.

Justin Edinburgh's men offered little after the break and slipped to their fourth defeat in five games.

WELL EVERYBODY WHAT'S THE EXCUSE THIS TIME THEN?
ONE WIN IN EIGHT GAMES NOW AND YET JUSTIN IS STILL TINKERING WITH THE TEAM. THERE CAN BE NO EXCUSES WITH A FULL STRENGTH SQUAD ON THE PITCH AGAINST INFERIOR OPPOSITION. WE CANNOT BLAME THE CONDITIONS AS WELLING SCORED TWICE AND MISSED COUNTLESS OTHER CHANCES.IN RETURN COUNTY DID NOT A LOT.
LISTENING TO TIM'S COMMENTARY TODAY, NOBODY BUT NOBODY PERFORMED AT ALL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OUR GOALIE. THE MIDFIELD WAS NON EXISTENT YET AGAIN. IF WE CANNOT BEAT A MINNOW TEAM LIKE WELLING THEN I THINK THE TRANSFER LIST IS GOING TO GET EVEN LONGER AND THAT MAY WELL INCLUDE THE MANAGER IF THINGS DON'T BUCK UP. WHAT ON EARTH HAS GONE WRONG WITH OUR FAB TEAM THAT WAS?

No surprise. Didn't see game, so cannot comment on performance. But, as per previous remarks I've made, if fans believe we can regain Football League status without bold January transfer window moves they are living in cloud cuckoo land. If fans are simply happy to retain Conference status and finish halfway up table in the hope of building further next season, then fine.

From what Big Tim Thraves was saying in his commentary the midfield did'nt turn up.Luton will be licking their lips at 3 points guaranteed. J.E. does his best by picking his strongest team but oh so sadly they let him down in the non-existant midfield.. I take my hat off to those brave supporters who made the long journey they were let down very badly.I asked once before. Do we have a fine weather only football team ?.

Teams do drift in and out of form and currently the team is in a poor run. The one issue as I see it is that until recently we had a settled front line and settled defence but have consistently with the exception of Porter rotated the midfield. The transfer market is not necessarily the answer what appeared to be the late budget increase to acquire Flynn is possibly to blame JE had his midfield then had to accommodate the message board hero who has had an indifferent season so far.
But remember where we were last year and where we have come from. This side is performing above its ability to be third in league and can Newport sustain a league team anyway. If people and or the chairman lose interest after ramping up the overhead where wil it end Hellenic League again!!

I will say this. Wrexham! They almost went out of business last year and look where they are now. County were and are in a much better situation than Wrexham financially yet we don' t seem to be able to obtain the sort of quality players they have. Nevertheless, we have seen what this County team is capable of. We have to question why everyone has just stopped playing to the wonderful standard that they showed earlier in the season? The bad form is not a blip it is becoming entrenched. Where has the leadership on and off the pitch gone? Who is going to pick them up?

OH DEAR

never heard TIM THRAVE'S commenting how much he wanted to hear a county match come to an end with 25 mins to go.

i listened to it on newport city radio and COUNTY were no where near the opposition in all departments.

more a ANTHONY HUDSON performance than JUSTIN EDINBURGH.

i tend to agree with contributor RANGER 12.

A SETTLED does tend to produce consistent resuts.

EDINBURGH seems have played a game of OPERATION over the last 6 weeks and installed confusion / disorganisation/ and doubt in all players concerned.

there was no need for whole sale changes , HE JUST NEEDED TO BRING IN DEFENSIVE COVER for competition, and player rotation.

the midfield seems to be absent without leave in recent games too.they were completely over run yesterday.

MIKE FLYNN seems to have underperformed considering his league pedigree and sincerely hope he is not another TOMMY DOHERTY.

that said JULIAN made some great saves in the second half to keep the scoreline to 2 instead of 6.

the service just wasnt there for o connor, smith and jolley.

good signings though smith and jolley are i wonder how long they can be kept, or how long before their host clubs recall them.

then county are back to square one , with no attacking cover as they v all gone on loan / left.

failing to pick out any positives from this performance, can anyone help.

and oh dear DECEMBER TO COME..........HELP ! :-)

MARKP1667 , DONT GO TO HMV GO TO MSP THE TOP CAT OF EBAY .:-)

I think Wrexam benefit from their geography the North West is a hot bed for football from Premiership down. Players can move around to many clubs without onerous travelling or moving home. It is a problem County have always had our location makes us a bit of an out post and we don't appear to do much with our welsh or West Country neighbours in terms of loans etc
