County appoint chief executive – and they aim to keep midfield star Lee Evans

CHIEF EXECUTIVE: Dave Boddy CHIEF EXECUTIVE: Dave Boddy

NEWPORT County will today unveil Dave Boddy as their new chief executive while also pressing on with attempts to strengthen the squad.

Boddy will leave his role with the Football Conference in order to join the administration at Rodney Parade.

He will operate above general manager Steve Dance and will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the club.

Director Howard Greenhaf and chairman Les Scadding will today confirm the appointment of Boddy in a press conference at Rodney Parade and Greenhaf has also vowed the club will do everything they can to hold onto their prized asset, Lee Evans.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been watched by a host of clubs and most recently has seen his name linked with a move to Premier League outfit Stoke City.

However, the Exiles don’t want to do business on Evans, especially after allowing midfielder Jake Thomson to join rivals Lincoln on a one-month loan.

He’s ineligible for next Saturday’s clash with County at Sincil Bank.

“On the way to Lincoln, games, assists, goals, dreaming,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, on their desire to keep hold of Evans, director Greenhaf told the Argus: “We are keen to keep Lee, this is probably the first season where any bids for our star players are unwelcome,” he said.

“Generally it’s a bit of a badge of honour to sell players to the Football League for a fee, certainly at this level and we’ve had success with that in recent years.

“But this time around we want to remain as strong as possible.

“We want to keep all our best players and if we did have interest in Lee, we would certainly look to ensure any deal included an agreement that he remains with us until the end of the season.”

The Exiles can push on with their transfer plans having finally appointed a chief executive, a move planned since the summer.

Boddy joined the Football Conference staff in 2010 having previously been on the Conference board for five years.

He was previously chairman and director at Worcester City and has also enjoyed general manager roles with Evesham, Bromsgrove Rovers and Worcestershire County Cricket Club.

He also ran his own telecommunications company.

  • Meanwhile the Exiles have rearranged their postponed clash with Braintree Town for Tuesday, January 29, kick-off 7.45pm.
  • The postponed match at Hereford will now be played on Tuesday, March 5 (KO 7.45).

well on the lee evans issue. cash in now and let him go. his contribution this season as been poor to say the least. with the money find a player who can pass the ball forward and play evey game as if it`s a cup final, and not when they feel fit to perform. as you can see, i`m not his biggest fan at the moment . i repeat, he asn`t played well since his injury. at the present time he is taking the place of some one who will try.

i think jake thomsen's tweets speak volumes about his attitude as a player and a team player.

wheres the fight to get back into the team ?

like to remind mike flynn it hasnt been just one bad performance but namely yate x 2, alfreton.hyde, wellin
g, kidderminster, and forest green.

lee evans still only 18 and learning his trade, and is really not going to be a finished article yet, its all about potential , of which the gaffer seems to think he has buckets.

so COME ON COUNTY, WREXHAM IS A LOCAL DERBY, A TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH, AND THE PRIZE BACK TO THE TOP OF THE LEAGUE.

WHAT MORE MOTIVATION DO YOU NEED THAN THAT!!!

Netala, are you a rugby man ? If you think Lee Evans can't pass the ball then its the only explanation, stick to something you know about.

ebbwdragon: sorry but i`ve been playing and watching football for over fifty years, not very well as a player though, and i`m no expert, as you seem to be, but like most of the fans who turn up are, we do notice things that happen on the field, and his contribution as been less than satisfactory. a midfield "general" needs commitment and go in for the ball, not much of that going on , whereas before injury,he excelled at it and if you can`t see it, perhaps your watching the wrong sort of game.

Lee Evans & Stoke City !
Woolworths window comes to mind.
potentionally could be very good, but so are a lot of players who are given the same amount of game time (Thomson)
Lee fades in and out of games too much and therefore puts a burden on the remaining midfield.Do the deal now before they change their minds.

Why do we need another hanger-on in Dave Boddy. how much will he cost? does he put money into the county or take it out. Seems to me this guy has been everywhere. Is he an asset or another liability. Is the county boardroom getting a bit top heavy. Obviously as I'm miles away I don't see everything that goes on at County. We used to have a chairman that came on to the website now and then to tell us what was happening but that's no longer the case.Anyway good luck for tomorrow night County by God you are going to need it.

I would rather have spent the money on players tbh.
I've been reading Worcester City fans forum, they don't have a good word to say about Boddy - worrying.

COUNTYVOICE we're aware that County are not Man utd, also I don't get why you bring up the FGR result in this thread as it has nothing to do with the thread what so ever, a good CEO will pay for himself if he get's things right, fingers crossed that he does.

Netala, did you go 2 the forest green game up there place? Did you watch the Luton game, obviously not in both games. All three midfielders were excellent! I believe Evans has a great future and will only look better with better players giving him the ball to play and control the game!

does it matter what thread i express an opinion on?

people have the option to read or not.

its a topical county forum , opinions dont necessarily have to be reflective of the current news report.

You need to keep things in perspective, imagine talking about a football match and someone comes along and starts on about horse racing. The topic needs to be in context at least.

Getting slightly worried about things that are happening with the County over the past week. First the heavy home defeat,
Then the embarrassing Twitter transfer and now this appointment I'm not sure we even need. What's next ?
