NEWPORT County AFC boss Justin Edinburgh finally landed long-term target Christian Jolley yesterday to cap a fantastic end to what had been a frustrating week in the transfer market.

Jolley, who scored five goals in five games during his loan spell with the Exiles before Christmas, has now returned to Rodney Parade in a permanent move from AFC Wimbledon.

The 24-year-old forward signed a contract that ties him to County until the end of the 2014/15 season after rejecting moves to Luton Town and Forest Green Rovers.

The fee is undisclosed but the Argus understands it is less than the £30,000 quoted elsewhere.

“It’s a great signing. We all know what he brings to the side and it shows the ambition of the board of directors and the club,” said Edinburgh, who also brought in Robbie Willmott from Cambridge United on Thursday having missed out on Chris Todd and Michael Smith earlier in the week.

“We targeted two players and got them both in the last 24 hours,” he added.

“We had a setback with Chris Todd. We were given permission last week to speak to him and agree terms but then at the weekend they changed their mind while Michael Smith decided to go back to Charlton but we moved on to other targets.”

Willmott and Jolley are both available for today’s match at Lincoln City after they received international clearance yesterday but Ismail Yakubu is likely to miss out due to illness.

what about our leaky defence? We have no probs scoring goals, but let too many in. Glad we got Jolley but lets get a good stopper or two. If we get promoted we will be destroyed at the back.
