County swoop for Rhys Griffiths

NEWPORT County have signed free agent striker Rhys Griffiths, ending a pursuit of a player they've targeted for several years.

The former Llanelli striker has a remarkable Welsh Premier League goalscoring record - 181 goals in 180 appearances - prompting former managers Peter Beadle and Dean Holdsworth to bid for him season after season

However, he was always reluctant to quit on a career as a firefighter and only last summer joined the full-time ranks by signing for League Two Plymouth Argyle.

The cash-strapped club released him last week and County have wasted little time in signing a replacement.

"We are delighted to have him on board going into a crucial part of the season," said Exiles boss Justin Edinburgh.

Hope he is not injury prone, like at Plymouth?

Sounds like a good signing to me. An extra defender would be handy as well. But well done JE he looks to be a better gamble than Washington who can't seem to be able to hang on to the ball.

amazement is the word!!!!!. we need to make our defence stronger, and goes for another forward, don`t we have enough on the books?. and please don`t say we have mr hughes, because he is not good enough at the moment, maybe in time who knows? it seems Kev Ward`s words are not right, he is not listening to the fans. the defence on tuesday played well, even if Anthony was pushed off the ball a few times. we don`t want over weight bulls like Mansfield , but he is not like Yakubu or James.

Well I hope its not Harris. He has been a faithful servant to County and can play at this level. Also Griffiths seems a more sound investment. (2 managers tried to get him) than Washington. Although I could be wrong. That would be nothing new.

Dork asks if we're sad or we're glad,
That we've signed up a new 'striker' lad,
But if you ask me
I'd say wait and see
It depends if he's good or he's bad !
