STEFAN Ratchford would be pleased to continue as Warrington Wolves goal kicker for as long as required.

The 24-year-old has banged over 28 conversions in the past three matches, intially taking on the role in Brett Hodgson’s absence through injury.

With his 10 successes in the 68-10 win against Salford City Reds he became only the fifth Warrington player to reach double figures in one match during the Super League era.

And when the former Wigan St Patricks amateur landed another 10 in the 82-10 smash of London Broncos in Gillingham a fortnight ago, he was one short of Hodgson’s record for most goals kicked by a Wolves player in an away game.

Hodgson was back in the side for the London trip, but Ratchford retained the kicking duties.

“It’s something I enjoy doing,” said the in-form Ratchford, who has starred for Wolves in half back, full back and centre positions this year.

“I spoke to Hodgo leading up to the London game and he said I’d been kicking well so carry on.

“Hodgo is first choice and if he wants to take it over again for the Wigan game then that’s fair enough.

“But it’s something I’ll keep on doing in practice and so I’m always there to be called upon if needed. I’ve always kept up the practice and it’s come in handy over the past few weeks.”

Ratchford says he is happy to play a team role with the club, pitching in wherever he is asked to play rather than having one specific role.

“I’ve had many discussions with Tony Smith about positions,” he said.

“Some coaches like a player who has got that utility value to be able to cover and Tony is one of them. I think as long as Tony is coach and as long as I’m here then I’m happy to do a job for the team.

“If you can get in the 17 with the talent we have in this squad then you’ve got to be happy with that.

“And if we’re coming up with performances like at London and scoring 80 points then you don’t mind what position you are playing.”
