The leader of Harrow's Conservative group says she will discuss the proposed removal of dog bins with the new independent Labour administration.

The comments come following the announcement a campaign has been launched by dog owners against the removal of the bins in the borough’s parks which is due to happen at the end of the month.

Councillor Susan Hall said: “This cut was hidden away in the budget, and only came to light after we probed for the details behind the figures.

"It is yet more evidence that Labour had no interest in keeping Harrow clean, green and safe, and they refused to listen to our concerns about the impact these cuts would have on our borough.

“I shall be raising this with the new Independent Labour administration. It is not right that our residents suffer because of Labour’s poor decisions, and their ignorance of what our residents actually want from their council.”

Harrow Borough Council told the Harrow Times that removing the bins, and the collection service, will save the authority £35,000.

The council also pointed out many other local authorities stopped dog waste collections quite some time ago and people will still be able to dispose of waste by placing sealed bags in general rubbish bins.
