County launch investigation into Aaron O'Connor Twitter row

NEWPORT County AFC have launched an “internal investigation” into comments made by striker Aaron O’Connor on Twitter.

The 30-year-old, who has not played a competitive match since the Conference play-off final at Wembley last May because of a groin injury, took to Twitter last night to vent his frustrations at the club.

He posted: “Lose a couple games and now all of a sudden the injured lads have to be in for 8 hours a day #CosThatsGonnaHelp #Shambles

“Apparently it's my fault I'm not fit. Not the guys they sent me to see that gave me the wrong injections for 3 half months #Clueless”

O’Connor also responded to County fans who were unhappy with his criticism of the club.

This morning the club has released the following statement: “Newport County AFC wishes to re-iterate that the club expect the highest level of discipline and professionalism for all its staff members and everybody connected with the club.

“All employees of Newport County AFC have a responsibility to represent the club to the best of their abilities in a positive manner.

“The club is aware of recent comments made on social media and an internal investigation is underway. Until this is completed the club will be making no further comment.”

Meanwhile the club has revealed that they are set to announce the signing of a new striker later today.

You do wonder why footballers think they are different to the rest of society. In any other walk of life if you publicly criticise your employers that is at best career limiting and most likely you'll be shown the door. Aaron may have a valid gripe, who knows ? but you don't wash your dirtly linen in public. As for '#costhatsgonnahelp' well your tweeting isn't gonna help either Aaron.

Thomas O'Malley 100% right. Discuss any gripes with management. Don't air them in public. Hope it's just frustration on Aaron's part and that he'll take it out on opponents' defences when he eventually returns.

In response to the alleged Twitter nonsense.
It's very simple Aaron. The iphone actually has an OFF SWITCH!
Why not use it and start switching on to getting back in the team.
I had not expected such alleged behaviour from a 30 year old!
You were my hero last season and I would like to think that you are better than this.
