NEWPORT County AFC start a run of three games in six days this afternoon with manager Justin Edinburgh admitting his side are just one more postponement away from a real problem.

County make the short trip to Bristol Rovers today as they return to League Two action for the first time in a fortnight.

Last week’s home clash with Dagenham & Redbridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade – the third game to fall foul of the weather in a month.

That match has now been rearranged for Wednesday, March 19, and Edinburgh’s men face a hectic schedule over the next two months.

After today’s local derby at the Memorial Stadium the Exiles are due to host Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday before Friday's clash at Southend United.

They then face five matches in February and eight in March and Edinburgh admits that they can’t afford any more disruptions to the fixture list.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up now in a real short space of time with the ones we’ve lost,” said the Exiles boss.

“But hopefully, with the squad we’ve got, we’ll be able to deal with that. Time will tell.

“As long as the weather stays kind to us over the next couple of weeks I’m not concerned. But we haven’t had our cold snap yet and I’m sure we’re due one.

“If we lost any more then it’s going to be very hectic and would put a lot of pressure on the players but with everyone fit we have the mentality and strength to cope with it.”

The positive news for Edinburgh is that he is getting closer to having a fully fit squad with Byron Anthony and Max Porter back in training.

Midfielder Adam Chapman is suspended for today’s game and striker Danny Crow misses out with a minor injury.

But Conor Washington, subject of several bids from Peterborough United, will be in the squad.

“Apart from Danny Crow, who’s got a minor tweak and will probably be out for a week, it’s looking really positive,” said Edinburgh.

Around 1,200 fans will head over the Severn Bridge from Newport today and that will be a big factor according to the County manager.

“Our away support this season has been second to none,” he said. “We took great numbers to Cheltenham, Portsmouth and Brighton and West Brom in the cup and we’re always very grateful for their support.

“I think we’re used to big occasions as a group now and this is another one.

“Our attitude as always is to play the game and not the occasion and we’re all looking forward to it.

“I expect it to be a good atmosphere, like it was at Rodney Parade, and we’ll be looking to produce the same kind of performance.”
