NEWPORT County AFC suffered a Severnside derby defeat on a wet and wild afternoon in Bristol that put another dent in their promotion hopes.

Former Exiles loan striker Kaid Mohamed put Bristol Rovers ahead in first half stoppage time and Eliot Richards made it 2-0 just after the break.

Rene Howe pulled one back for County but John-Joe O'Toole's last minute strike sealed three points for the hosts as they eased their relegation concerns.

County manager Justin Edinburgh said: "A lot of things didn't go for us today. That's not taking it away from Bristol Rovers but I certainly didn't think there was too much between the two sides.

"We're disappointed with the goals we gave away. A couple of players have spoken and held their hands up and know they can do better.

"The timings of the goals were crucial for them and put us on the back foot and made it difficult. The ball hasn't fallen for us and it has for them."

I paid a subscription to listen to this game. (sorry county lost) and I must confess I have been robbed. More cut offs than I can remember certainly not worth the money. I only received about 10 minutes of the second half and even then Tim Thraves was 10 minutes behind what was actually happening. Example. He was saying County have their 5th corner of the game while on TV Bristol had just scored a 3rd goal. County boardroom cannot honestly expects fans to pay for this kind of service. I think they should go (cap in hand) back to newport city radio and beg their forgiveness for leaving them. I will try and listen to commentary on tuesday if that keeps breaking down I shall unsubscribe. I can't make it to matches so I rely on this service. Could do better county officals. Hard luck County.

One point from nine in last three games against sides in the bottom six is not good enough for promotion or a play-off spot. Will have to be happy with a mid-table spot now and, hopefully, build for next season.

After watching the Dragons game at RP this afternoon I would think there is about a 10% chance of Tuesday,s game against Plymouth being played, the North end of the pitch is the worst that I have ever seen.

Unfortunately Lareman the County have no say in the matter the Football League tell them that they have to have it, but if the game against Plymouth is played then they will have commentary on Radio Wales because Cardiff are not playing.

Thanks for that county voice. I saw the old player option but thought that might be some comments by an ex County player. I have windows 7 was told 8 was very complicated so did'nt download at 75 I'm not the best when it comes to PCs. still trying to figure out what an ipad is. appreciate your comments.

And so the harsh wind of Division 2 reality blows. Like many I have always felt I would be content with mid table but we presently show relegation form. We don't look good and are poor tactically. The bubble has burst and I'm not getting cold and wet watching rubbish

I don't really know why people are moaning that they aren't likely to get promotion, I think that they have been fantastic in being in the position that they are in, much higher than mansfield :) I think asking for back to back promotions for a what seems like an under funded team like county is a bit to high an expectation. They should just concentrate on each game as it comes and just try winning each game rather than the position in the league.
