NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh is looking forward to seeing some old faces at Southend United tomorrow night but Exiles fans won’t get to see former hero Craig Reid.
Edinburgh returns to Roots Hall, where he started his playing career as an 18-year-old back in 1988, as County take on the Shrimpers in League Two.
But Reid, a County hero from the 2010 Conference South title winning side under Dean Holdsworth, will not be involved for the hosts.
The 28-year-old striker joined the Essex outfit on a free transfer from Aldershot Town at the start of the season but has struggled to work his way in to the team.
He has made just two starts and six substitute appearances this term and is now in talks with club chiefs about ending his time at Roots Hall.
“Craig is talking about his contract with the chief executive and I’m waiting to hear an update about that,” confirmed Blues boss Phil Brown.
Ahead of the match Edinburgh said: “I’ve got a lot of friends and family coming and I’m looking forward to going back and seeing some old faces.
“I had a fantastic time there and I’m very grateful to the club for giving the opportunity to fulfil a magnificent career.”
