County 2 Wycombe 0

First published in Newport County

A QUICK-FIRE double from Christian Jolley and Chris Zebroski saw Newport County ease their relegation fears.

A tense, nervy encounter was finely poised throughout despite the Exiles being the better side for large periods.

Jolley's vital strike with just over 20 minutes remaining set County on their way as he poked home his first goal since August and a thumping strike from Zebroski five minutes later settled matters as Newport can now surely look forward to another campaign in League Two.

As Corporal Frazer would say "I always knew we were too good to be relegated".

So we're not ' all doomed' after all !!

Good result and let's hope we can finish the season in style.

A much better performance today all round. Thought Rene Howe made the difference up front holding the ball up well and Blake and Feely were solid at centre back. A crucial 3 points. Unlucky doom mongers.

Well done County great 3 points. I noticed that Tim Thraves and Charlie weren't complaining about the big boot up the pitch so maybe the lads were playing better football this time. Just a wee query from me to those who watched the game. If the sand is causing trouble, why can't they rake it off the pitch to let the grass grow through?.

My oh my, Wycombe the worst team by far I've seen at Rodney Parade this season. That's probably why JE threw caution to the winds with his 4-3-3 formation, and it paid off. But at the risk of being labelled 'a doom monger', let's not kid ourselves. We remain a very poor team ourselves and we need a complete revamp for next season.

Hi Larneman, they had to dig about 10 small trenches to fit in emergency drainage so they had to fill the trenches with sand, thus the loads of sand at the North end, but they will be completing the work in the summer, incidentally both our goals today were scored at the grassy end lol.

Newport County won the match that mattered and this time at Rodney Parade. 3 most important points even because the struggling clubs at the bottom of the table have all garnered points.

County can now play the final four matches with a relaxed mind and with less pressure. This means that they can garner more points to end the season on a higher note.

It was a great day for Christian Jolley who returned to scoring a most important goal for County after a lapse of many months.

Up the County.

It took me one and half hours to travel from my home in North Somerset today due to traffic jams at the tolls, but I must say it was well worth it. I have found the season very hard to take but I have been to all the home games and a couple away. I have not always been complementary as I comment on what I see at each game warts and all!
However it was a real joy to see Christian Jolley score again, he played well. Zebroski scored goal of the season. It was great to hear all the positive comments from the exiting supporters at the end. Was a long time coming but well done County.

What a difference between Wycombe and Plymouth, Plymouth had 6ft plus strikers and Wycombe were tiny in comparison which was great for us. Wycombe were by far the worst team to visit RP this season, i think they would struggle in the conference.

Absolutely off the mark the could have infilled and laid turf. What they did could have caused no end of leg/knee injuries.

Beg to differ turf would not knit on top of the sand with teams playing on it constantly and would constitute an even more dangerous playing surface than just the sand, and the sand had to be there to drain the water which kept lying on the surface.

It was so good to be at the game on Saturday, our boys were on top from the kick off. For the first time this season, every player had a good game, difficult to pick Man of the Match, solid defence, controlled midfield, exciting forwards. However I thought Blake was outstanding.
