GOING UP: Newport's Lee Evans has been promoted again with Wolves

NEWPORT’S Lee Evans is celebrating back-to-back promotions after Wolverhampton Wanderers regained their place in the Championship on Saturday.

The 19-year-old joined Wolves midway through last season from Newport County having played a big part in his hometown club’s eventual promotion to League Two from the Conference.

And the midfielder, who impressed manager Kenny Jackett on his return to the side in Saturday’s promotion-clinching 2-0 win at Crewe, is now enjoying another success at Wolves.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Evans. “We set that as the aim at the start of the season but to see it happen, words can’t describe it really.

“I’ve been fortunate because I was part of Newport’s promotion last season and now Wolves too, but I’m not daft, it’s not going to happen every season.

“They are moments to cherish, especially when you see the fans’ reaction – it’s unbelievable.

“Now I can’t wait to get back to Molineux to celebrate and see their reaction.

“I heard they’re trying to get to 30,000 for Friday’s game and, if they do, it will be a great atmosphere.

“We’ve got the club back into the Championship – now we want to do it in style and win the league.”

The Wales under-21 star admits he is delighted for the club’s fans to be able to share in the promotion joy, but says that is another reason to stay focused and try to go on and finish top at the end of the season.

“The fans could have deserted us this season but they attendances we’ve had have been superb,” he told the official club website.

“Look at the following we took to MK Dons – that was something special and to take 9,000 to an away game is unheard of.

“They’ve been great and we can’t fault them at all.

“We wanted to take them back towards where they belong into the Championship and we’re just glad we’ve done that for them.

“Hopefully they enjoyed their Saturday night with a few pints!

“We enjoyed the moment after the game in the dressing room because these things don’t happen often, but we’ve still got a job to do and we’re focused on Friday.

“The League title is the one we all want now because promotion was the minimum target really.

“We all want a medal so we can look back on a season we can be really proud of.”

I'm delighted for the lad but would be even more pleased if promotion kicked in another payment for the County.
