NEWPORT County AFC have missed out on a bonus payment from Peterborough United after Posh were beaten in the League One play-offs on Tuesday night.

The Exiles would have received an extra payment from Peterborough if they had won promotion as part of the deal that took Conor Washington to London Road in January.

But, despite Washington’s late strike, Darren Ferguson’s men were beaten 2-1 by Leyton Orient and missed out on a trip to Wembley.

Posh were 1-0 down when Washington and Wales under-21s star Lloyd Isgrove came off the bench and went 2-0 down on 88 minutes.

The 21-year-old former postman did deliver a goal to give his new side hope in injury time but it was too little too late.

There will therefore be no promotion add-on payment but it is understood that the Exiles will receive extra cash payments for every ten appearances that Washington has made for his new club. So far he has made 19 appearances.

Washington also missed out on the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Ultimate Finish of the Season award.

The former Exiles striker was nominated for his second goal for County against Portsmouth in November but lost out in the public vote to Portsmouth star Patrick Agyemang.

The former Ghana international won the prize for his second round goal against Oxford United, pipping Bristol City duo Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Joe Bryan who finished second and third respectively.
