NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh has held fresh contract talks with hometown heroes Mike Flynn and Byron Anthony and the club is expected to announce new deals for the pair this week, writes Andrew Penman.

The Newport-born duo are both keen to stay at Rodney Parade and Edinburgh also wants them to be part of his squad for the club’s second season in League Two.

The players both met separately with the Exiles boss on Tuesday afternoon and there are not expected to be any stumbling blocks.

County are also still hopeful of signing young Irish centre-back Kevin Feely after he apparently reversed a decision to quit football to pursue a career in Gaelic football (GAA).

Feely, who impressed in a short loan spell at County from March this year, was released by Championship club Charlton Athletic at the end of his contract this summer.

After scoring the winner in County’s 2-1 final day win over Rochdale on May 3, he returned home and talked of playing for his local GAA club Athy in the Kildare Championship.

He told the Irish press last week: “I’ve still got options to go back to England but I’m still not sure what I’m doing yet so I’m just trying to relax and enjoy my holidays.”

But Feely has now been called up to the Irish under-21 football squad for a friendly international against the Qatar Olympic team in Germany this Saturday.

And he could yet sign up to play for County in League Two once again next season.
