Cirencester 0 County 5

South Wales Argus: GOAL: Aaron O'Connor scored the opener for County GOAL: Aaron O'Connor scored the opener for County

TWO goals from Rene Howe and one each for Aaron O’Connor, Joe Parker and Mike Flynn gave Newport County AFC another comfortable pre-season win.

Southern League Cirencester Town were no match for the Exiles on a sunny afternoon in Gloucestershire.

A solitary strike from O’Connor made it 1-0 at the break before the floodgates opened up in the second half.

Howe, who also scored at Evesham United last week, added two quick fire strikes before the hour mark – the first a superb curling effort into the top corner.

Parker, in his first appearance in a County shirt, added a fourth with a fine solo goal as he beat three men before slotting past the keeper with a cool finish.

And Flynn rounded off the victory for Justin Edinburgh’s men with the fifth goal inside the last ten minutes after good work from Christian Jolley.

Rene Howe had problems off the field last year with cancer in his family, so understandable if his head wasn't in the right place. Here's hoping he's in for a good season - Jeffers likewise

Rene needs to start jumping for the ball instead of backing into players to try and get soft free kicks. It's farcical and looks stupid given his size. If you don't play it to his feet he's not interested, that's my only worry about him. I hope he has a better season. Some of his shots have so much power in them though that if it's on target it's in. Zeb is nailed on for one shooting berth so it's going to be competitive for the last one or possibly two spots. I wouldn't be surprised if JE goes for 3 up front in the first game against Wycombe.
